Akshay Kumar's career went through a bad phase during 1996-1999 days when he gave a series of flops, Insaaf was another one to the list, Here too again he played a cop, surprisingly in the same year he was paired opposite 2 of his real life love interests Shilpa and Raveena, In Insaaf and Daava respectively. Akshay was doing action films those days but sadly his films found no takers, INSAAF had also a hit song Barana De but sadly it couldn't save the film. The film has a done to death story to blame, The first half is more on comedy, romance but the real story starts when the kids are murdered but what follows is very routine and the film ends as a normal action film

Akshay Kumar does his routine cop act, in those days he wasn't a that great actor and here too he reaffirms that, as usual his action scenes are praised Shilpa Shetty is the heroine, enough said Paresh Rawal is as usual, Alok Nath is terrific as the villain, Ranjeet and others are as usual
Chung gik yan je (2006)iMDB Rating: 6.3Tedius Ninja - entertaining but uninvolving low-budget HK actioner
Mediocre ninja action flick from prolific low-budget action director Herman Yau (DATING DEATH, CITY COP), suffers from low budget and low ambitions, but it's entertaining all the same. Rival Ninja factions seek opposing alliances while immersed in intrigue over possession of a secret formula that will cure disease. There's some pretty good swordplay and nicely choreographed action sequences - and the girls are mighty cute - but it's all very perfunctory and devoid of a really interesting directorial style. The characterizations are nicely developed and well performed, especially a romeo&juliet love triangle between two of the opposing force ninjas.

There's something about Vin
Every summer a film comes around that takes everyone by surprise. Last year it was Scary Movie and I'm sure in 1977 it was a film like Star Wars and then in 1981 it was Raiders of the Lost Ark. Now I am not saying that The Fast and the Furious is in the same class as Raiders and Star Wars, just that it surprised everyone on the same level. F&F is short on plot and dialogue and even some of the acting is lame, but what it is oozes is testosterone. It pumps your blood, increases your adrenaline and attacks you with fast cars, sexy women and that one invariable that I think it has going for it... Vin Diesel. There is just something about the guy, something that you really can't put your finger on, but he just has it. Maybe it is charisma, maybe it is charm, maybe it is just that he resembles some of the action heroes from the 80's with his chiseled triceps and his slabs of pecs. Maybe it is all those things and maybe it is none of those things, all I know is that F&F is exactly what I had hoped it would be and nothing more. This is the summer movie that I have been waiting for. It's not that the films that have been out so far aren't that great because some of them are, it's just that this is the one that epitomises what summer as a teen ager is all about. It is no wonder that exit polls for this film were around 65-70% under the age of 21. And maybe that is why I enjoyed it so much. I am pushing 30 but isn't it cool to lose yourself in a film that reminds you what it was like to be in highschool. And isn't it cool to watch street racers break 140 miles an hour wile they shoot NOS through their vehicles? Well isn't it?
F&F doesn't contain any machinations similar to a film like Mission Impossible and it doesn't dazzle us with special effects of impending doom like Armageddon did, but it takes us into a world where people live life "a quarter of a mile at a time."
Vin Diesel plays Dominic Toretto, a massive, bald mechanic that owns a garage but street races on the side to make some extra cash. Paul Walker ( The Skulls, Varsity Blues) plays Brian Spindler. He is a cop that has infiltrated the street gang to find out who is highjacking trucks and stealing all their merchandise. There are about four rival street gangs in L.A. and one of them is pulling this off. He has to figure out which one. Of course along the way he seduced by the life, but that is not what we really care about. All we want to see is lots of racing, a few crashes, some fights and some sex. F&F doesn't disappoint. If what you have seen in the trailers of the film excites and entices you, then you know exactly what you're in for. This is not going to win any Oscars for anything but what it will do is entertain you. It will expedite you for 90 minutes into a world where Honda's are souped up to look like Dragons and junkyard scraps are rebuilt from scratch to be better than they were before, better, stronger and faster. If this film appealed to you in the commercial, it will appeal to you on the screen.
And of course there is Vin Diesel. He first made a name for himself in Saving Private Ryan where he played Capparrzo. Then he jumped onto the scene with his excellent and grandiose turn as Riddick in Pitch Black. I think this is the film that got him noticed because no one had even heard of him before this. Then he did Boiler Room and he showed a different side to him. But F&F is all muscle and sheer bravado. I think Vin is going to do great things in the years to come. He is not a nobody anymore. This film will take care of that. And face it, isn't it cool to see the genesis of a new action hero?

The Saxon Chronicles is finally here. I saw a screening of this film at the LDS Box Film Festival because my buddies from the SCA were extras in this film. I had very low expectations for this movie, considering all the movies at the festival were terrible, probably the worst I have ever seen. Then there was "The Saxon Chronicles", not to be confused with the campy medieval short shown before. This movie really surprised me. Here we have a film about King Alfred the Great that was shot in Utah, of all places, that was actually really enjoyable to watch. Some of the acting was okay, and no one really had any English accents, which was distracting, but the story was wonderful. I give kudos to the director, Jeshua De Horta, for his ability to undergo such a huge project, with such a low budget, and to the writer for a wonderfully written script with characters that felt real and a script with quotable dialog, and to King Alfred (aka Darin Southam) for this rugged portrayal of the Saxon King. The star of the film however goes to the actor who played Chad, James Morris, he did an excellent job with his role, in everyone of his scenes it's hard to keep your eyes off him, my only regret is I wish I would've seen more of him in the film.
So to summarize: Congratulations Writer, Congratulations Actors, and Congratulations Director...
Shame on the LDS Film Festival for giving no appropriate recognition or awards to this great film.

Only bad thing was the dodgy American style of talking employed by some of the hl actors... like Edison... "What's up my man?!" but it did add even more humour to iy... hhehe

Epic equestrian western
Set "somewhere in the East, around 1856", this action/costume film is a revenge story between two 'couples' of brothers. Jakub and Vladimir, two young Cossacks who suffer terrible humiliations during their military training and Roman and Elias (the two horse thieves of the title). After a terrible tragedy, Jakub leaves his regiment and tracks down the two thieves with what looks like a samurai's sense of honor and dignity. Shot in beautiful landscapes, with a minimum of dialogs, an impressive music, and an epic ambition, this blind and brutal race towards a metamorphosis (to free himself, Jakub will also have to become an outlaw) is also a study of dependence struggles (the two elder ones taking a role of father and imposing their choices to their youngest brothers). To appreciate this film, one needs to be sensitive to children's stories with a simple framework, disregard a certain awkwardness, and accept a very literary narration (three chapters announced by three titles: Him, Them, Manhunt), and a depiction of rough characters, the oldest thief (Roman, played by Grégoire Colin) almost turning into a kind of caricature.
'Voleurs de chevaux' is a sort of equestrian western which was obviously made on a low budget. The reconstitution of a mythical European mid-19th century often misses what the big Masters made of it (one can't help thinking of Kubrick with Barry Lyndon, or Kurozawa with Dersou Ouzala). Micha Vald took a risk, but there is an undeniable 'soul' which animates his beautiful story: the confrontation, crimes and vendetta of the four brothers, bathed in the cold light of a poisonous and solitary nature. Between the end of their adolescence and the beginning of maturity, the four characters compose a striking fresco, which owes most of its success to the actors' performances. One can't help taking one's hat off to this group of very young actors who support the whole film: Adrien Jolivet and Gregoire Leprince-Ringuet on one side, and Grégoire Colin and François-René Dupont on the other side. We won't forget the charm of theses ferocious dogs for quite a while.

Player 5150 - Delivers a Gripping Action-Based Drama
Player 5150 is a great film for the authenticity it brings to screen. A rare gem in the rough. By comparison to all the special-effect driven overblown budged movies being released today, Player 5150 is a character-driven story that takes you through every range of emotion. David O'Neill (Writer/Director) does a great job inviting you, no daring you, to identify with the main character Joey, (Ethan Embry) who is a compulsive gambler and whose life is about to spin out of control. As you do, you experience a taste of that "unique rush of excitement" that a real gambler feels when they are up and are winning, but when luck runs out, the finality of what it means to lose hits home and the darker side of gambling emerges.
Enter Tony (Christopher McDonald) a ruthless no non-sense loan shark. In my opinion, I thought McDonald delivered an award winning performance along with Bob Gunton (Nick) in showing the raw, gritty, and sadistic reality found on the losing side of the coin of gambling. Where gamblers gamble for the thrill and the rush, loan sharks are about greed. As you travel along at 200 mph with Joey in the fast-lane of a gambler's life, McDonald is the proverbial brick-wall-reality-check smiling sadistically back at you as you slam into him. A gripping performance was delivered also by Kathleen Robertson (Ali), who played Joey's wife giving us insight on what it is like being in love with someone who has a self-destructive addiction.
My only criticism would be about the ending. I felt that this movie could have had any number of endings and it would have been alright, but it seemed like an ending couldn't be decide upon so they creatively worked them all in somehow. For me, it made the ending fuzzy and gray instead of a bold clear contrast which made the rest of the movie gripping and powerful.
As an overall experience, I enjoyed watching the movie very much. It kept you constantly leaning forward in anticipation of what would happen next. If you enjoy fast-pace action-drama and character-driven stories, then highly recommend Player 5150 as it delivers.

This is an example of the latter-day version of the "B" movie -- the direct-to-video/cable job. As such, if you don't mind cheapness (New York City seems to be portrayed by a small town in Canada) or occasional silliness, it's pretty good. William Baldwin is noble as a cop contending with a corrupt partner (an effectively scary Adam Baldwin) and a murderous joker of a bad guy (Jon Seda having a heck of a time). He falls for a threatened witness, a shrink played with soulful intelligence -- no kidding -- by Elizabeth Mitchell. There's even a nasty hit man haunted by the memory of his musician father. The Baldwin/Mitchell dialog scenes are quite acceptable, and Seda makes your heart race whenever he's on camera. This movie stretches to encompass a theme of redemption and loss, film-noir style, and just about manages it. The action scenes, such as they are, suffer from budget stretching. A bad guy is running away from cops; after he runs half a block, nobody's chasing him anymore. But the conviction of the actors makes it work. Warner Brothers might have produced something like this to play on double bills, and the audiences would've come away satisfied.

Searching his paste !
The problem with this movie is simply it never find his paste. It present you Zendo as the main character... at first but then as the movie progress he become more or less a second rank character... For a movie about a tournament, unlike Bloodsport for example, there is almost no matches. Sure the movie show a couple good fight scenes here and there, but story wise its correct but there is no character development for a lot of the characters and even Zendo, which is supposed to be at least one of the main character. I do agree also on the fact that Samantha Alarcon is a terrible actress, she feel so unreal when talking, at least she is cute... But bottom line, it could have been a pretty good movie but it is just average...

Well, I suppose it could have been worse. Not sure how, exactly, don't care to think. Don't you love it when they try to add softcore to sci-fi, and don't get either? What were they thinking? I wonder if it actually made any money.

Breakenback is out of luck, the items are in the hands of cool assassins, crazy stuntman, wild dancers... and a chiropractor! For some reason there is a bunch of Ninjas on his back too... Well, good luck with that!
Not worth 94mins of my life
I borrowed the DVD and looked at the cover. Hmmm. It looked good. A low angle shot of Igor, the hero. The tag line was what caught me. The "No Budget" bit to be exact. So I sat down and watched the whole 94mins of it with my sibling. I was quite disappointed. The storyline made no sense and there was no character development. I wish I hadn't seen it. Waste of my time.
But don't get me wrong. It's not that it sucked. It was just quite tedious. The stunts were impressive and then got a bit excessive.
I give it 1 out of 10.

But what Rocky is about to realize is that maybe helping Neha by beating up the goons, was his biggest mistake. Everything goes haywire, his parents ignore him, even his mom is realizing that Rocky is nothing but a troubled child. Now what happens to Rocky?

In an attempt to get it back, they wreck the getaway ship, guided by a young boy named Tabio, who's a captured part of El Drago's pirate crew. El Drago's love for gold has driven him to look for Woonan's island, and thanks to Woonan's treasure map, he finds it. During this time, Luffy's crew have been split up, and despite their own circumstances, they must find a way to stop El Drago from obtaining Woonan's gold.
Cool for the first movie of a great Anime.
In the first movie installment of One Piece, we're told of a tale of Great Gold Pirate Woonan. A pirate who obtain 1/3 of the world's gold. Over the years, Woonan's existence has faded away. And a legend grew on his gold located on a remote island he settled on.
Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, and Nami got involved in the hunt for Woonan's treasure after meeting Tabio(a kid who admires Woonan) and a group of pirates lead by El Drago. El Drago is a tall Aztec Indian like man who's mad about gold. And wants every piece of Woonan's treasure.
As the hunt begins on the island, the Straw Hat Pirates must stop El Drago from stealing the treasure. But El Drago's crave for gold makes him dangerous to go up against.
Takes place between episodes 18 and 19. This movie is well thought up for being the first for the ever popular One Piece series. The animation and style are the same. And 51 minutes running long makes it feel like a double episode special.
Never a dull moment with the action, comedy, and character development used throughout the movie. A must see for those who like the anime. Only available on fan sub. Which is as easy to find on the internet as %0
