Review :

run-of-the-mill indie Indy movie

Basically Raiders of the Lost Ark had the budget been slashed in 1/900th's repeatedly. Andy J. Forrest is pretty good as an all-American treasure hunter out to find a mysterious lost tomb of cleopatra out in the Sahara desert. However, before he does much adventurin', he gets locked up in a dusty stockade run by a couple sadistic French foreign legion-types who force him to find the treasure for them. This means that Forrest must team up with a greasy sewer rat (played by CANNIBAL FEROX's Danilo Mattei) in order to repeatedly break out of the prison, dig up artifacts, and then return to the prison to show the warden what they were able to come up with. HUH???

Well besides Mattei and Muller, the supporting cast is not too notable and the photography by Luigi Ciccarese is bland. On top of that, there isn't much action or adventure and the film is far too incoherent, badly plotted, and vague to keep you too engaged. However it does feature one of Luigi Ceccarelli's earlier (and better) simple synthesizer musical scores and have a couple well-done sequences. Massimo Pirri (director of FATAL FIX and few other notable films) was one of the youngest of the Italian directors in the late 70's, early 80's, and known for his very sloppy approach to film-making. Often he doesn't bother to aim the camera at the right spot or have his actors do anything besides star blankly into the camera, saying their lines emotionlessly.

Andy J. Forrest fared much better in Umberto Lenzi's better-made World War II film BRIDGED TO HELL, made around the same time. However, as a World War II film, it generally deserved better than another cheesy Ceccarelli score and Ciccarese camera-work. This film works as a good sort of primer for BRIDGE TO HELL's lunacy, though aside from that I really can't think of much to recommend MARK OF THE SCORPION.

While on vacation on Northern Australia, Gracie, her husband Adam and her younger sister Lee decide to take the Blackwater Barry tour in the swamp for fishing. Their guide Jim uses a small motor boat and takes the tourist along the river to a remote spot. When they stop, they are attacked by a huge crocodile that capsizes their boat and immediately kills Jim. The three survivors climb a tree and when they realize that help would never come to rescue them, they decide to try to find a way out of their sheltered location. However, in the muddy water, their boat is flipped and the crocodile stalks the trio under the water.

Black Water will get you nervous...

Gore hounds beware...this is not your movie. This little nail bitter has very little blood and guts. Its basically a version of Open Water that is effective and worthwhile. But what sets it apart is that we actually like the three leads (unlike Open Water) who find themselves up a tree when a crocodile flips their fishing boat and munches up their guide. We don't want any harm to come to any of them. SO when they start getting into dangerous situations...we actually care.

Now I like killer animal flicks but I haven't been too impressed with Lake Placid up to Primeval (although I'm still waiting to see Rogue and hoping it is somewhere as good as this one!) but this little bugger did the job and did the job well. It's scares are creative and it only lapses into the run of the mill frantic crying sobbing and arguing for brief stints of realism so I never got annoyed.

I remember reading the true story that inspired this where three guys went fishing and two ended up in a tree while their buddy was killed by the crocodile . But the thing that always impacted me that gets left out from the film was that the crocodile didn't eat up the buddy. No. For hours and hours he swam around the tree and shook the dead body still in his mouth at the friends in the tree. Seeming to stay, if you come down here this is what will happen to you.

Mahesh Rocks!!

The best Intro Scene of Mahesh history!!

Mahesh Babu is extraordinary as the caring brother. He is very stylish and charming, yet looks down-to-earth with boy-next-door demeanor. Mahesh is extremely good in emotional scenes involving sister. Mahesh Babu characterization is done in such a way that though there are enough mass elements in the film, the class presentation of Mahesh is intact.

Coming to story..

Arjun (Mahesh Babu) and Meenakshi (Keerthi Reddy) are twins. Arjun and Meenakshi complete their graduation. Meenakshi and Uday(Raja) who study in the same class fall in love and they do not express it when they leave the college. Raja's marriage gets fixed by his Madhurai based parents Bala Nayagar (Prakash Raj) and Andal (Saritha). Raja sends an invitation card along with a letter expressing his love to Meenakshi and she expresses her feelings to Arjun. He goes to Madhurai along with his parents and gets Uday and Meenakshi married to each other. Bala and Andal are cold-blooded murderers and they are not happy with this. Arjun foils all the attempts by Bala and Andal to get rid of Meenakshi from the life of Raja. The rest of the story of the film is about how he exposes the evil nature of the in-laws.

Excellent and lovable Movie

This movie is the best film there will ever be in Bollywood. I have seen Mahaanta over 10 times. It has all the elements that a good movie must have: Excellent Dialogues, Music, Acting, Story/Plot. a story of friendship, courage and revenge. The camera work is flawless and grips you. The acting is inspired. Despite to have the famous actors and the great line story, it failed to win any major popular or critics awards. I am a real fan of Sanjay Dutt. a real fan of Madhuri Dixt too. Dutt was fantastic as always! Madhuri Dixt looks very beautiful and played her character very well. Amrish Puri was brilliant! He played his villain character extremely well. If you have't watched this movie,try it once, Do watch it.

puri jagantah direction is very beautiful in this movie and i can say that the way the story goes and ends is very amazing....i can say that this is the best action and thriller movie. Mahesh Babu acting is good and comedy in the movie is superb.

Strictly Average....

Rajkumar Kohli's 'Saazish' is okay fare from the 80's. The film has been edited roughly, making the proceedings look dull & confusing.

'Saazish' has too many twists & turns, one after one. The editing is so rough, that it takes time you grasp the film. At least 8-9 scenes appear in the first 10-minutes, 'Saazish' is one of those films that has more-than-needed scenes. However, the final twist is good, but again this film remains as a strictly one-time-watch.

Mithun is good. Late actors Raaj Kumar, Vinod Mehra & Amrish Puri are okay. Dimple is wasted, so is Anita Raaj. Raj Babbar does well in a well-written role. Kader Khan does not deliver. His portions look forced by the screenplay.

Watch this film... with zero expectations.
