After the passing of her husband, Mrs. Sharma lives an impoverished lifestyle near Daryaganj, Delhi, along with her daughter, Razia/Radha, and son, Kishore Kumar. She has managed to get Radha engaged to Inspector Mohan, and Kishore to Asha. Things change suddenly when everyone finds out that Kishore is a petty criminal - resulting in both engagements getting annulled. Hoping to shed his past, Kishore re-locates to Bombay and finds employment with Shewakram for supplying medical supplies. His mother receives news that he is now settled in his new job and both she and Radha re-locate to Bombay. What A Charming Thug!

"Dili Ka Thug" (Trickster of Delhi) is a movie revolving around Kishore (Kumar) who gambles and tricks people to make money. On being confronted by his mother, he decides to find a job and lands one in Mumbai, where he continues wooing Asha (Nutan). Kishore's father and his friend were murdered by a notorious Anantram who now wears a mask to hide his true identity and continues manufacturing spurious medicines and also passes as Nutan's uncle. The firm employing Kishore is run by Anantram and his two henchmen-Sevakram and Bihari. Anantram goes to murder Kishore in the hospital but drops his monocle which makes Iftekhar suspicious-he manages to take Anantram's fingerprints on SohanLal's wallet and figures out the truth. What follows is a dramatic air-borne sequence where Anantram is beaten by Kishore and shot by Nutan. Kishore manages to land the aeroplane after the pilots lose their consciousness...and as they say all's well that ends well.

The first half of the movie is slow and would have been a drag but for the presence of the inimitable Kishore Kumar. The director makes up for the first half in the latter half of the movie as the events unfold quickly before the story reaches its climax. One also gets to listen to some very memorable songs-a water ballet "ye bahar ye sama, ye jhoomti jawaniyan" and then "hum to mohabbat karega.." followed by "CAT.." showing Kishore doing his hilarious earth-shaking moves and then the beautiful duet "ye ratein ye mausam.."

Its like going back in time...only by 49 years and a sad realization that none of the actors who played a pivotal role in the movie are alive but their memory lingers on (other than the singer Asha Bhonsle) (Sanjeev Logani :-))

Ed Wood would have done better !

Starting with an image of the Atomium in Brussels, "Blue Belgium" intends to give the watcher a possible explanation for what went wrong in Belgium during the last two decades, going from the raids of the "gang of Nijvel", over "pink ballets" and "virgin hunting parties", to the Dutroux-affair. The story connects all this events - made up or real - in a plot-theory being a right-wing attempt to evoke agitation in the country and seize power. Up to that point, I have no complaints. Where things really go wrong is in how this is done. First of all, none of the "actors" seem to be bothered by any acting qualities nor decent knowledge of the English pronunciation, the story is sewed together by the one improbable event after the other, the sound track is purely imbecile ("On the road again" when they are driving a car), and there is not the least attempt to sustain any internal logic, not to mention the technical "qualities" of this creation. In other words: Ed Wood would have done better !

It is clear that this is a very cheap attempt to earn some quick money on an international eager-for-sensation video-watching audience. In principle there is nothing wrong with that as long as they would keep it away from real movie houses and as long as the director and his crew would not be that conceited (or simply naive ?) to expect some applause for "daring to treat this national taboo" (his words !). Ashamed to be a Belgian !

Complexx (2006)

Some professional gamers lock themselves in a building after a games convention in order to play the ultimate game of life and death. "What's the point of playing if you can't die?" is a repeated quote throughout this film, but you'll be thinking "What's the point of watching if you can't enjoy it." It looks like cheap digital camera work, and some of the shots are simply laughable and staged. When the camera takes on the perspective of a door, it becomes rather head scratching. The plot has been done so many times before, best of all in Cube (watch that). I'd rather be playing a game than watching this. It gets 1 1/2 stars mostly for being short.

Brilliant, simply brilliant!

I cannot believe that there are people out in the world that refuse to accept foresight and sci-fi concepts such as these. I am currently enrolled at Cambridge, and I was absolutely enthralled with the possibilities of this prose. How can you not hope to reach a higher level of understanding and meaning. As a Bio-Physics major, I am continually searching for answers without questions first. Ideas that have spawned a thought process of imagination. I believe as do another critic which I read earlier, that ALL things are possible, if you can think it. Otherwise, how did you come up with the concept. I firmly believe, that God gives us the dreams and imagination we have, because we can achieve it. As far as the film was concerned, I watched it several times. I recognized several British actors, as well as, the American James Fitzpatrick. I saw him another British Film, called U.S. Seals. A fine actor he is. If you are going to dream...dream imaginatively...not rehashed.

Miike renewed (again)

Miike is like a chameleon, but no ordinary one. While a chameleon changes color to blend in with his environment, Miike only sticks out. He has no fixed style, no typical characteristics, but still manages to make every film like a director with a unique style. He's like 4, 5, maybe 6 authors in one. Sun Scarred is one of his latest films, and even though it's the 45th Miike film I've seen, it's still very difficult to compare it to his other work.

I believe Sun Scarred is the first Miike film I've watched that strives for a certain level of credibility. Though thematically related to films like Fudoh and even Battle Royale, Miike's take on the subject is a lot more down to earth. It's bleak setup and subdued emotion make it all the more scary.

Miike regular Aikawa is leading the film, playing a father who's about to lose a lot. Though his actions might've been just, he ends up on the cover of every news paper, labeled as a criminal. Set up by a gang of juvenile delinquents, his battle for justice is one he cannot win as his opponents are firmly protected by the law. When the gang leader is back on his feet after hardly two years of doing time, Aikawa returns to get some answers.

While this could've easily turned into a simple revenge flick, Miike pursues a different approach. He puts the viewer right in between Aikawa and the gang leader, trying to raise sympathy for both, making it pretty hard to choose between the two of them. Miike actually puts forward a pretty big moral dilemma, again something not often seen in his films.

Visually his film is bleak and cold, even shifting to a silent black and white intermezzo at one point. From time to time a little sloppy in the details, but overall a pretty nice looking film with a couple of scenes that deserve extra praise. It's clear that Miike is constantly improving himself as a director, as a couple of years ago a film like this from his hands would've looked cheap and sleazy.

The sound design is even better, with brooding and dark ambient tones in the key scenes, making them quite scary en menacing at times. Something that helps both the atmosphere and the credibility of the film. All of this aids to establish an atmosphere which is quite uncomfortable to sit through.

Maybe Miike waited this long to make a film like this because the bleak outlook and styling really call for a different style of direction. His weirdness and wicked ideas would've felt out of place in Sun Scarred, and it's a good thing he's well aware of that. Even though the ending isn't as dark as it could've been, at that point the film has already settled in well enough and all points have come across.

Probably the scariest film Miike has ever made, though this is clearly no horror flick. Part drama, part subdued revenge, which a big finger pointing at the passive attitude of many instances and people in this film, the film impresses until the very end. It's not Miike's best, I still have a bigger soft spot for his weird stuff, but it's typical that he can pull off a film like this right out of the blue. The man's got talent, we probably just have to wait another 30 years before it will be widely recognized. 4.0*/5.0*

bad direction!!!

aaya saawan jhoom ke starts in a very filmy style.this makes us believe that it is yet another boring movie about bichde hue maa-beta.but the story is quite different.

Yashodha(Nirupa Roy) kills a man for trying to rape her, fearing that she might get caught by the police she leaves her baby at a temple which is later adopted by a childless couple (Nasir Hussain and Dulari).They later have a daughter (Bindu).They name their son as Jaishankar(Dharmendra). He grows up and there is happiness in the family.But his mother is dead. Once when he visits a music concert he gets mistaken to be the singer Jaidev Kanpuri by the organizer(Rajendranath).He later introduces him to Aarti(Asha Parekh). Jaishankar and Aarti keep meeting each other and fall in love.She then asks him to meet her father.But the unexpected happens.Aarti's father gets killed in an accident by Jaishankar.

What happens later forms the crux of the story.Another plot unfolds during the latter part of the film.Though the story is different and new,the treatment of the film is not good.The direction by Raghunath Jalani is very filmy and below average.The entire Nirupa Roy angle could have been done away with.The murder plot in the latter half of the film could have been given more importance.The director has tried to turn the movie into a sentimental family drama which does not work.The direction could have been better and mature.The music direction by Laxmikant- Pyarelal is good.The song 'O manjhi chal' is the best song of the film.It is also very well picturised. The lyrics by Anand Bakshi are also good.Coming to the acting department Dharmendra,Rajendranath,Bindu and Aruna Irani stand out.Asha Parekh could have been better.Laxmi Chhaya dances well and her acting is fine,but could have been better.The rest of the cast comprising Ravindra Kapoor,Jagirdar,Nasir Hussain,Jalal Agha,Dulari,Nirupa Roy and others are good.

On the overall the movie can be watched with the family but is not up to the mark.It is a one time watch.But the song O manjhi chal can be watched again and again.It is beautifully picturised.
