Based off of a one time T.V. show, two Los Angeles S.W.A.T. officers Jim Street and Brian Gamble were sent in to foil an extremely violent bank robbery. Although they thwarted the robbery, they shot a hostage in the process. Street was suspended from S.W.A.T. while Gamble was fired altogether. After 6 months, a veteran S.W.A.T. officer, Daniel Harrelson or "Hondo", is told to assemble a S.W.A.T. team for his division. He chooses other S.W.A.T. officers as well as 3 rookies. However, after they pass the S.W.A.T. training, they receive a message that a French crime boss, known as Alex Montell is trying to escape from prison. This will not be easy to prevent, especially after Montell promises $100 Million to his rescuers.
'Die Hard' continues to influence to this day...
This movie is no doubt influenced by the 'Die Hard' series. In this case, 1990's 'Die Hard 2' where the plot involved a drug dealer. A drug dealer in this case offers 100 million dollars to anyone who can bust him out after he is captured. Naturally, everyone with a greedy agenda, including some people that really make things sticky for the good guys, try to spring him. This film has a nice gradual build to its eventual payoff and Colin Farrell and Samuel L. Jackson are in good form. I only wish that their characters had been a little better developed. It's nice to see a movie where a character has a particular manner, saying or habit that makes their personality instantly recognizable. This is one of the better films to be based on 70's television. Certainly better than the 'Charlie's Angels' films (rubbish).
Devarajan murders his wealthy brother-in-law and widower Krishnadas, and with the help of his friends and co-conspirators Superintendent Koshi, Inspector Sharat and advocate Raj Mohan, manages to discredit and disinherit Krishnadas's illegitimate son Vijay Krishnan. With the help of a few trusted friends, Vijay starts his revenge on the four people who murdered his parents and destroyed his life, but he is also hunted by Crime Branch officer Swaminathan.
TV show host Miles Long, trades his camera in for a 9mm hand gun when his girlfriends daughter is kidnapped by a parolee that he put behind bars while on the police force.
This film actually made it to DVD?
I try to find something good about every film that I watch but I was unable to find any redeeming factor even remotely associated with this wack job of a movie. Parole Violators seemed like a good buy at the dollar store but the truth is that it will rob 90 minutes of your life that you will never get back. The bottom line is poor acting along with poor script..... makes for a very painful viewing experience. The cast and crew do deserve an award for making one of the worst films of modern times. This is one of those films that probably makes perfect sense after chugging 9 or more beers. Do yourself a favor and avoid this one even if someone is trying to pay you to watch it. I'm normally an upbeat person but this film is a total wally.
A film crew is in Southeast Asia filming a Vietnam-war memoir. It's early in the shooting, but they're already behind schedule and over budget. On the day an accident befalls the novice director, the cast and crew are attacked by a gang of poppy-growing local drug dealers, except the cast and crew don't realize these aren't actors who are stalking them. The thugs kidnap Tugg Speedman, an actor whose star seems on the decline, and it's up to the rest of the ragtag team to band together long enough to attempt his rescue. But will Tugg want to leave?
Funny spoof of every war film ever made
Saw this at the Washington, DC screening on the 10th.
And Got Some I did. A comedy that is not Apatow's is refreshing nowadays. A relentless hard R comedy that fuses elements of practically every famous war film ever made. Beginning with trailers a la Grindhouse for every major character was already a sign of a hilarious film. While most of the humor was "funny-but-i'm-not-laughing" the same amount of laugh out loud humor and gags was provided as well, courtesy of mostly Stiller and Downey Jr. Who I wholeheartedly feel - stole the show. I can't say I've ever seen any character like his in a film of this genre, which already I feel will enter the classics. What's refreshing about Thunder is that it's actually original in certain aspects of the storyline; such as when they decide to shoot the film guerilla style in the jungle only to have the director of the film....- I'll leave this at that. A spoof of war films that isn't tireless or idiotic like the recent Epic/Date films... which do not even deserve to be called "spoofs". And be prepared for Cruise, who plays the most radical role of his entire career.

Dena and the Baron battle gangsters on the streets of downtown Cleveland in a quest for $100,000, leading to many murders, double crosses and a final foot chase.
A mistake on the lake
THE PLATINUM PUSSYCAT, filmed under the more generic title THE LOSERS, is a sad excuse for a movie, looking more like an unfinished collection of reels scavenged from some film lab bankruptcy sale.
Having grown up in Cleveland (I was still there attending college when THE LOSERS was made) I was able to identify the obscure Something Weird video and match it to its origins. In the IMDb Trivia section I have already listed some of its technical shortcomings.
What we have here is an incompetently made would-be action movie, completely incoherent with a plot line sort of applied through dubbing and narration. It's not as bad as say the WHAT'S UP TIGER LILY approach of the mangled RESERVOIR CATS (aka THE KILL), whereby a 1968 Gary Graver junker featuring Lilly Foster and Uschi Digard was intentionally mutilated in 1998 by some video maven for "comic" effect. But no amount of work could save this mess or make it much worse either.
Jeff Baker (who he?) stars as a taciturn ex-cop (kicked off the force on a morals charge) Michael, chasing around Cleveland in a quest for $100,000 of stolen money as well as trying to find out who killed the heroine's hubby Hollister. She is Dena, played by lovely blonde Sandy Roberts (I felt sorry for her when I saw how skimpy her credits were listed in IMDb), considered the prime murder suspect.
Michael, whose nickname is Baron for no good reason, stashes Dena at a safe house, where busty artist Linda Hopkins lives. Not so safe after all, as Dena is kidnapped, trussed up bondage-style and whipped, mainly for the audience's benefit rather than some scripting necessity. Especially 'cause there is no script.
Mike rescues her and the film floats off into cloud-cuckoo land with a scene of him finding a bomb (looks like TNT) under his car hood and tossing it away nonchalantly. This movie is literally beyond the capacity of smart-ass MST3K types to ridicule -it's low camp to the nth power already.
Some post-production tinkering seems evident with a lengthy sex scene involving low-level gangster Dino in a threesome with two busty floozies, featuring full frontal nudity and lesbian sex. This footage is so out of keeping with the rest of the nonsense I inferred it must have been a "spicy insert" to convert an actioner into porn suitable for adult theater bookings.
Plot twists start coming fast & furious (& pointless) as Michael searches for a spy named Carl, and runs into him walking down the street downtown (Terminal Tower is not shown for some reason). We get a topless shower scene by Roberts, and then Dena and Mike tie Carl to a tree to question him.
Dena taunts Carl by baring her breasts and rubbing against him but he rejects her yelling (dubbed): "You pig!". This unusual role reversal is par for the course in what my old friend from Cleveland Michael Weldon would call a prime example of a "psychotronic" film.
Things escalate as Michael uses a jack to torture Carl, dropping a car down on his body. Incoherent foot chases and car chases through Cleveland's The Flats district kill some running time, and a near-escape by Mike in a light plane is a non-starter.
A landlady originally from Dresden named Mrs. Hirsch briefly adds some of the ethnic flavor Cleveland is best known for; she turns out to be a baddie, finking on Michael & Dena's whereabouts to the gangsters.
SPOILERS AHEAD: Sam & Florence show up to give us a plot recap, with the revelation by Sam that "I killed Hollister". Sam has the missing 100 grand in his possession, and Flo insists on being serviced, in an interminable dead-silent humping scene later punctuated by voice-over in the vein of "Enter me please, enter me" trying to sound sexy.
For the finale, hard-boiled Mike seems ready to let Dena take the rap for her husband's murder but she uses her sexy body to win his sympathy (hey, this is porn after all). Sam offers the Baron (Mike) a split of the $100,000, but instead we get a particularly bleak shootout. The lame-duck cops finally show up to mop up, but the nihilistic ending portrays a bunch of corpses in a garbage dump like setting that definitely was not approved by the Cleveland Tourist Bureau.
Acting is dreadful, beginning with constipated-looking Baker, a guy who looks like he should be playing thugs in Italian Westerns.
I guess I'm taking it too personally, but this film portrays the Cleveland that expatriate comics, notably Pat McCormick and Tim Conway, made into such a laughing stock in the '60s and '70s. I escaped, but still feel some kinship to my home town, which deserves better.
THE DEER HUNTER was partially filmed there, making atmospheric use of one of many Russian churches for its lengthy wedding sequence, but of course that story wasn't set in the Forest City (yes, that was our official nickname). "A Christmas Story" was set in Cleveland making a Macy's like use of our Higbee's store (the Gimbels-type rival Halle's store notably is what Halle Berry was named after). So that's something for posterity.
Edward Montoro had a successful career as exploitation film distributor mainly with his still well-remembered Film Ventures Intl. banner, but as a director he's a no-show. Even Joseph Cornell or Bruce Broughton, the underground kings of "found footage", couldn't make a silk purse out of this hodge-podge.
The story of two rival brothers, one a pimp and the other a cop, and how the former manages to be the family favorite.
Gritty crime drama set in 70s France
The movie follows two brothers, one on each side of the law. Gabriel is about to be released from prison and plans to stay clean, despite his rebellious nature. His brother François is a cop, struggling to belong because he was born in a hard neighborhood and in love with the wife of a criminal he put behind bars.
The movie's greatest quality is probably the setting. The late 70s truly come alive in this drama. Costumes, cars, music. The writing team also concocted the classic crime drama you would expect in the 70s and even director Jacques Maillot directs somewhat with a 70s feel, down to police procedures, chases and gunfights. A word of warning: this isn't an action flick. The movie seems content exploring the two brothers and the lives they try to build for themselves as well as the clashes between them when their lives intersect. As such, it is more of a drama than anything else.
François Cluzet (who plays bad boy Gabriel) is his usual self: excellent. His character doesn't apologize for his nature and at the same time, Cluzet is perfect in capturing the somewhat pathetic, self-victimizing nature of his character. Guillaume Canet (playing François the cop) is also good. Canet seems to have made a name for himself and stars in a lot of French movies (particularly thrillers). The rest of the large cast is more than adequate.
What prevents this superb production from a higher rating is a somewhat flat story and a botched ending. There's this impression that the writers and director may chewed more than what was needed and couldn't tie this more appropriately. It's still a fun ride but something seems to be missing at times, which is a shame since the basics are solid.
Still very worthwhile if you miss old school crime movies of the 70s and early 80s.
A local street gang finds a briefcase full of money in an abandoned building. The gang later finds out that the money that they have in their possession belongs to one of New York's biggest crime families.
Enjoyable Action Film
This movie did have some good parts to it and was a nice watch if you like Independent action films. I thought the story was a good one with some action and mystery. It was cool following the street gang's life and seeing where it took them. Also, when the Italian crime family gets blended into the storyline with the street gang it's a nice blend and changes the storyline nicely. As mentioned by somebody else, the acting did range in quality it seemed like. But, Jamie Velez who played the lead role of "Freddy" did a solid job and was fun to watch. Jamie plays the tough guy who looks like he can't lose, and you cheer him on hoping he doesn't! I think the writer/director Conrad Glover wrote that character well. Raine Brown who played gang member "Julie" did a great job portraying her character. She is one tough cookie! It was cool seeing Conrad Glover, play the smooth hustler "Billy". The main problem I had with this film was the sound effects; which is related to some special effects as well. I'm mostly talking about the gun firing throughout the film. Make the sound effects more realistic and this is a nicely formed action film!
Brazilian "Death Wish".
Brutal and violent 1978 Brazilian rape-revenge film with Jose Mojica Marins as the head of a crime syndicate with ties to the local police, who helps execute a man and his family after his wife and daughter are savagely raped and killed by two perverted sons of mob bosses. The killers focus on him and his small son as well as other people who work at the man's bar where he works. They also take him from the bar and torture him with electric wires at a bogus police station making him even more dead-set on having a bloody revenge. He kills the two rapists, one by shooting him in his genitals.Trashy and sleazy rape rape and revenge/action flick with graphic nudity and the score copied from John Carpenter's "The Fog'.The rape scenes are very brutal and there is the weepiest and most annoying kid ever put to film.6 out of 10.
THE SUPREME SWORDSMAN - A fairly intense late swordplay film from Shaw Bros.
THE SUPREME SWORDSMAN (1984) was part of the final wave of swordplay films to come out of Shaw Bros. before it wrapped up feature film production in 1985 to focus on television series production. This one's surprisingly focused on its theme and has a relatively small number of main characters. It has the usual hyperactive swordfighting, but few of the fantastic flourishes found in most Shaw costume pictures from that period. Jason Pai Piao plays a swordsman who wants to be Supreme Swordsman and acquire 100 swords from other heroes by killing them in duels and taking their swords. Early on, he reaches 99 and sets his sights on a particular sword and swordmaster. However, the real Supreme Swordsman (Wang Jung), handily defeats Jason, sending him on a quest for a better sword and, in the course of it, finding another key swordmaster (Ku Feng) leading a reclusive life and keeping hidden the treasured Cold Eagle sword of Jason's own Black Magic Clan. Jason, furious at being kept out of the loop on the clan's treasures, now wants that sword. Ku Feng's son, played by Derek Yee, gets into the act and at about the one-hour mark goes off for some needed training in order to take on Jason. And then Jason comes back into the film for the final set of duels.
The first hour had a great deal of momentum, but goes off on a tangent when Derek undergoes new training with a trio of crazy old monks (including kung fu regular Lee Hoi-sang), one of whom has a pretty granddaughter (Li Tien-lang) who becomes Derek's companion. By the time Jason comes back into the fray for the final battle, the initial momentum has dissipated and the film never quite picks it up again.
Still, Jason and Derek have good parts and Ku Feng has one of his best late Shaw roles. Yuen Wah has a good part as well, playing a defeated opponent who becomes Jason's reluctant assistant. The film's got a lot of well-staged action and is one of the few martial arts films made at Shaw after 8-DIAGRAM POLE FIGHTER that focused on a distinct martial arts theme to the exclusion of other plot elements, in this case Jason's pursuit to be the best in his field and defeat all others. The director, Li Pai-ling (aka Keith Li),was making his directorial debut, having been an assistant director beforehand. It's not among the best of late Shaw swordplay films (I'm quite partial to BASTARD SWORDSMAN and RETURN OF THE BASTARD SWORDSMAN myself), but it's a bit different from the others and does have its distinct pleasures.
Marvin and Sally are on their way to Grandma's when a horrible accident with a living corpse thrusts them into the path of a freakish cult. Through the use of powerful drugs, Marvin is transformed from an everyday citizen into a zealous fanatic, hell bent on leading the Zombie Cult into a final, bloody battle with the living dead and a tough biker gang. It is a dark day of suffering and bloodshed when these strange events reach their apocalyptic climax.
Troma Look Out!
If you love Troma flicks, you will love this film! The viewer should consider first that the intent of the movie is to mock both culture and the genera, and at that it does an _excellent_ job! The "cheap" Blair Witch feel and mountains of gore will have you rolling with laughter and squirming with disgust.
Since this was filmed around the Cincinnati area, I had the unique opportunity of seeing a sneak peek back in college. Ever since I obtained that first rough-cut preview from a friend, I spent a lot of time looking for the final version of the movie for my collection. Only recently did I manage to obtain it, and I am still impressed. The imagery of granola hippy zombies and ultra right-wing religious zealots continue to delight me as it will fans of this type of cult hit.
Also check out "Redneck Zombies".

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist is a movie within a movie, created to spoof the martial arts genre. Writer/director Steve Oedekerk uses contemporary characters and splices them into a 1970s kung-fu film, weaving the new and old together. As the main character, The Chosen One, Oedekerk sets off to avenge the deaths of his parents at the hands of kung-fu legend Master Pain. Along the way, he encounters some strange characters, one of which is a cow trained in the martial arts.
It all depends on your sense of humor
The first time i heard of Steve Odekerk was when I first saw the movie "Thumb Wars" on UPN, I found it to be so stupid that it was hilarious. After I saw the movie I quickly went out and bought all six in the series and loved everyone, now the humor in these movies is the stupid off the wall type that I love. Now Kung Pow is the same way and has the most random unexplainable humor that I have seen in a movie. Now I personally love this kind of humor but not everyone does, so I would say if you saw any of his other movies like Ace or Juwanna man these are more "normal" movies and aren't good to go by. But if you have seen the thumb movies or just love weird humor you will love this movie, I loved but that doesn't mean you will, so my advice is if you don't like stupid comedy don't watch this but if you like that kind of stuff you should check it out.
