Brazilian "Death Wish".

Brutal and violent 1978 Brazilian rape-revenge film with Jose Mojica Marins as the head of a crime syndicate with ties to the local police, who helps execute a man and his family after his wife and daughter are savagely raped and killed by two perverted sons of mob bosses. The killers focus on him and his small son as well as other people who work at the man's bar where he works. They also take him from the bar and torture him with electric wires at a bogus police station making him even more dead-set on having a bloody revenge. He kills the two rapists, one by shooting him in his genitals.Trashy and sleazy rape rape and revenge/action flick with graphic nudity and the score copied from John Carpenter's "The Fog'.The rape scenes are very brutal and there is the weepiest and most annoying kid ever put to film.6 out of 10.

Trash made in 1980s

Rajkumar Kohli is known for his multistarrer films, horror films like Nagin and Jaani Dushman Insaniyat Ke Dushman was another of his multstarrer action films starring Dharmendra, Raj Babbar, Shatrughan Sinha. The film has a done to death formula which worked in 1980s In fact Dharmendra had 11 releases in 1987 this was among those which was a hit. Dharmendra in his 50s was the lead hero while the others too were in their 40s. The film has a weird angle wherein Shakti Kapoor rapes girls by sticking them in a camera studio.

Direction by Rajkumar Kohli is okay Music is as usual

Dharmendra does his usual act, Dimple Kapadia is okay, Raj Babbar is as usual, Shatrughan Sinha is alright, Shakti Kapoor and Amjad Khan are usual.Kader Khan and rest lend okay support.

Review :

An entertaining Indian crime thriller from the 80s with some strong female performances

The 80s in India were famous for producing the worst commercial films but here is an exception. Not that Sippy's 'Satyamev Jayate' is a masterpiece of any sort, it's simply an entertaining and engaging crime drama about corruption, lust, betrayal, abandonment and revenge. Though the ending is predictable, the situations leading towards are engaging and we meet some interesting characters. For an 80's film, it's reasonably well shot.

The characters of the 'good' guys are well written as we see shades of gray. However, the 'bad' guys appear to be slightly one dimensional but the writer does explain reasons behind some of the character's attitude. For example, we can understand why Anupam Kher's greedy character is such a jerk to his wife.

Vinod Khanna is mostly alright as the alcoholic cop but he fails to convince in the drunken scenes. Asrani provides some comic relief. Shakti Kapoor's Bagha is menacing and Anupam Kher is OK as the jackass lawyer husband. However, in spite of being a male-dominated film, 'Satyamev Jayate' belongs to the women. Anita Raj is brilliant as Arjun's former lover Vidya while both Madhavi (as Pooja) and Meenakshi Sheshadri (as Seema) steal the show with their heartbreaking performances. Two scenes I found very disturbing were Seema's gang rape and Bagha forcing Pooja to clean the table. It is Pooja and Seema, with whom that the viewers ends up sympathizing most.

Bappi Lahiri's music is very pleasant. Only two songs are fully picturised and I like both the songs. 'Dil mein ho tum' is a very romantic song sung beautifully by Asha Bhosle and 'De Rahi Duwayen' is a sweet song about a brother and a sister.

There are a few plot holes and situations that should have been better explained. For example, what makes Bagha tap Arjun's telephone? All in all, if one is trying to dig up some good commercial Hindi film from the 80s, 'Satyamev Jayate' may be among the rare few. It's not a gem but has entertainment value.

Review :

Listen to your conscience

I've just finished seeing this movie. Making a review is not an easy task, but I will try doing it, for those who enjoy watching old Hindi movies, and of course for those who are fans of Dharmendra and Hema Malini.

The movie, show us, how a person can transform from an honest one into a great mobster who is not listening his conscience any more.

Sunny (Dharmendra) is very much in love with Mona (Hema Malini). One day, Sunny saves a man's life, without knowing that this person is the chief of a maritime company ( company that in fact makes illicit deeds). He does not accept the offer of working with him, nor his money, saying he is honest and he can never make an illegal thing.

On the other hand, Mona's father is indebted with another thief (the one who wanted to kill the chief of the maritime company). Mona is forced to marry this guy, if she want's that her father's life continue in no danger.

And here, interferes the old choice between listening your conscience or listening to your heart. Once again the heart wins. Sunny agrees eventually to work for the mobster, and like that he is able to pay the credit of Mona's father. He eventually marries Mona, and becomes himself the brain of all the illegal operation of the company. Mona in fact has now idea that her husband, Sunny, from a good and honest fellow has transformed in a wholesale liar.

One day, after seeing the doctor and finding that they will be parents, Sunny and Mona, have an accident. Mona, who is full of faith, manages to make Sunny understand that he has to give up his life of illicit deeds in order to keep his wife. In this accident he meets Ram (Jeetendra).

Decided to give up his life as a smuggler, Sunny undertakes a last operation, before giving up with all.

And of course he is almost caught. He manages to escape, but after giving up his disguise, he is sen, by no other then Ram (Jeetendra).

Eventually Sunny is arrested, together with Mona in whose umbrella are found some missing diamonds. For saving Mona from going to jail, Sunny explains to Ram in which circumstances he became a smuggler and swear that he will give up that life and that the diamond's business was the last one in which he would have been participating.

Ram, does not believe him, and decides to declare against him at the trial. And from this decision things degenerate, in a continuing pursuit of Sunny getting rid of Ram.

I am letting you discover the final. For those who know and love the pair Dharmendra Hema Malini, it will be a delight to see their love story put on screen (because on the time when the movie was made they were already married). Their interpretation is great, like the one of Jeetendra and Reka of course.

My note is 8/10. I did not quite enjoy the final though it's a good one.

Violence, revenge, and Los Tigres del Norte

As far as crime drama's go, you could do better than this one. On the other hand, if you're a huge "Los Tigres del Norte" fan or want to see some of Veracruz or would like to sample Fernando Almada's wardrobe, then by all means watch it. You might need sunglasses, though, as early on Señor Almada gets decked out all in white! It would seem as if he were vying for best dressed police lieutenant in this picture, for goodness sake! Anyway, he could have played his part in his sleep, so the sartorial selections at least kept him interested. (If you want to see him in a different kind of role, view the movie La Muerte del Chacal.) Sergio Goyri and Jorge Luke fortunately had some acting to do. Jorge, it must be noted, is one of the few actors that can switch back and forth between good guy and bad. And when he plays bad, as in this picture, he goes all out! It's basically a vigilante themed movie as Jorge and company rape and kill, Sergio is out for vengeance, and Fernando representing the law, tries to capture Jorge and stop Sergio. The moral being, sometimes the victim is no better than those that did him harm. Musically speaking this 20 year old film(as of 2007) still has relevance. Los Tigres del Norte are as strong now as they were back then, and they do a live performance of their hit, "El Otro Mexico" here, although the plot line proceeds as they are singing. And the song, "Camino al Infierno" is by the head of the Rivero clan, Pedro himself! Now his son Lupillo and daughter Jenni are topping the charts. The bottom line with this film is, plot construction good, pace good, but moments to elevate it above others in the genre, zero.

This One Sucks...

I'm not gonna spend much time on VIRGINS FROM HELL, cuz it really doesn't deserve it. It's inept in every sense - and although some see this as a "so-bad-it's-good" type film, and I guess that's possible - I found it to be disappointing and boring...

A girl-gang takes on the "evil" Mr. Tiger - a sleazy drug-dealer who the girls battle for killing one of the gang's family - but Mr. Tiger ends up capturing the girls and imprisoning them and shooting them up with some sort of Spanish-Fly type horny drug. Sounds like the premise for an exploit "classic", right??? WRONG!!! Let's get a few things straight. I won't even get into the acting. It's lame. The dubbing is ridiculous and inept but makes the film a little funnier. The violence is weak, except in one or two scenes...and...get this...THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO (and I mean NNNNNOOOOOOO) nudity in the crap-fest. A bunch of semi-hot Indonesian chicks running around in vinyl hot-pants - and NONE of them shows so much as a tit or a butt-cheek. They even wear dresses in the BATH?!?!?!?!??? The non-nudity gets a BIG "boo" from me. I guess some may find this film somewhat entertaining - I found it stupid and "weak" as an exploit film...4/10
