Review :

Surprisingly Entertaining

So first of all, my 8/10 rating is in comparison to other movies of this league--no budget, 70's-80's action films.

I had always had in interest in seeing Black Cobra but never got around to buying the movie. So when I saw Black Cobra and Black Cobra 2 at Walmart a few days ago, I picked it up. I was most impressed with the second film. It's very entertaining considering:

1. Its Badassness counterbalances its cheesiness

2. Fred Williamson kicks ass for an hour and 33 minutes

3. There is one really good explosion

4. Fred Williamson crashes through a window and blows away six terrorists with a shotgun

5. Most of the dialog, surprisingly, is very decently written and pretty funny.

Synopsis: Fred "The Hammer" Williamson reprises his role as Robert Malone, a street-smart cop who likes to law down the law and blow sh*t up. Malone's police chief gets frustrated with him when he continues to stubbornly deal in his own brand of justice. So the chief sends Malone to Manilla, the Phillipines, in a foreign police exchange program.

Mallone then teams up with Lt. McCall in the Phillipines, who seems to be a tight wad, but ends up becoming his friend. When the two go to retrieve Mallone's stolen wallet, they stumble upon a murder and soon get pulled into a conspiracy. Together they kick a lot of *ss, and shoot a lot of criminals.

One of my personal favorite parts is when McCall's little boy (who for some reason has a really ridiculously dubbed voice) gets kidnapped, McCall approaches the man responsible for it. The man turns around to shoot McCall, but he shoots the man like eight times, point blank. And Fred Williamson, being a martial artist, beats those henchmen to sh*t.

This movie is very reminiscent of Dirty Harry, if you dig that series. Fred Williamson has a lot of natural acting charm, Nicholas Hammond delivers and is very believable as well. This movie is a gem, don't miss out on it.

I will not waste our time with a summary; your average two year old is familiar with the themes and plot of Desperation Rising

Some say Jason Holt reaches his zenith in Angel of Passion; others say Death Dancers is his magnum opus. Although these are his better known films (and they are essential viewing for any aspiring film buff) they are not his best. "Desperation Rising" is superior to "Death Dancers" in its muted tones and subtle shades of desperation, and "Desperation Rising" rises above even "Angel of Passion" in its relentless exploration of timeless themes. It is a triumph of the human spirit! Stunning! Nick Cassavetes gives a tour-de-force performance as a man who is angry on a construction site.

Special effects play no insignificant role in "Desperation Rising." Restraint is key in the film. The restraint of passion, erotica, eros, action, and even the special effects weave together throughout the entire film to create a terse blend of flaming emotions. Through this restraint Holt achieves a remarkable synthesis that can rival only the greatest of auteurs.

It is a white-knuckle-thrill-ride that will keep you guessing on the edge of your seat until the very end, in which the film has unfortunately been forced to cease through virtue of it's own ending. Finally, a movie that lets the actors speak for themselves. A must see!

One of the best Action Packed Entertainer

Shiva is definitely one of the top class action entertainer of its time. For the beginners it was the first time audience saw the use of bike chain as a potential weapon, henceforth followed by goons both in real life and films as well. Shiva gave an absolutely new dimension to action films in India with its fluid packed stunts (something which were unheard of at that time). Such was its intensity that the movie ran jam packed for many months not only in Telugu, but also Tamil and Hindi as well. The film still has cult status down south even today as it saw the rise of one of the Superstars of South film industry in Akkineni Nagarjuna.

A real classic if there was one!

Terrific movie & one of my all time favourites. Everything about this movie is in superlatives. Great sets, casting, cinematography, music etc. M.T.Vasudevan Nair has worked wonders with the script & dialogues, and direction by Hariharan is innovative. Mammootty's portrayal of the central character "Chandu" was so realistic that whenever one reads or talks about this historical character from the Northern ballads,it's Mammootty who springs to mind. Captain Raju too did a great job as the much misunderstood martial arts Guru "Aringodar". In fact, there were fantastic performances all around -Balan K.Nair, Suresh Gopi, Madhavi, each one of them "lived" their characters. Another lasting factor of this film are the two songs by Yesudas which have become perennial favourites. I hope the copyright holders of this movie will urgently start working on its DVD version. It would be a great tribute to one of the best movies ever made in India.

A DIFFIDENT WORK WHICH AVOIDS ITS MAJOR PREMISE.



This action/adventure tale is set in an imaginary Latin American republic amid a background of espionage involving the CIA and the United States Congress, in which its hero, Peter Caine (John Coleman), A.K.A. "The Stalker", characterized in the language of his enemies as the most venomous and robotic of agents, is revealed as an oddly restrained operative more concerned with survival than with demonstrating his hunting tactics. Caine is attached to a Senate-supported anti-narcotics mission which is exterminated during a meeting by a group of masked terrorists, with only Peter a survivor, albeit wounded, after which he prepares for a purported task of revenge, but a frequently occurring series of flashbacks demonstrates that the super agent has apparently not freed himself from a large body of personal devils. The promised requital is woefully slow in coming in this predictable production, cumbered as it is by a weakly episodic structure that gives rise to a sense of inadequacy about Caine, not helped by Coleman's unfashioned performance in his first credited role, nor by the strong presence of Martin Kove as his best friend, a seeming casting gaffe since Kove would have been far more believable as the lead. This is nothing more than a highly cliched adventure film offering only a mild feeling of adventure, fundamentally no character development or perceptible point of view, and a remarkably unoriginal score, although the sound crew is top-flight here, with the camerawork and the brightly surreal sets having interest in this generally dull picture filmed in Portugal.

Argentinian Action Comedy Bizarre

Some movies are good. Others remind you of your happy childhood. This is one of the latter. I saw it as a kid, and can see it again and again. Not thought to be some superproduction, this is the typical Argentinian comedy. It has all the nastiness you'd expect, but it's somehow cute. You can laugh at the most stupid jokes, not because they are funny, but because they're there in the first place. This movie, as a lot of Galettini's of the 70's and 80's, features Emilio Disi, one of my favorite Argentinian comedy actors. What can I say? Watch and laugh. If you want a better thought comedy, watch "Nunca asistas a este tipo de fiestas". If you want to laugh at bizarre stuff, watch this one, and the sequel (Somehow it's not featured here in the IMDB) Forget nº III and IV... those are completely forgettable.
